Introduction to Telemedicine Legal & Regulatory Issues

What are tools in the provider’s telemedicine starter toolkit? This course will provide the essential elements of the legal issues and solutions which should be considered by providers who are in their first steps of engaging telemedicine. The course will include detailed definitions and descriptions of telehealth and telemedicine. From there the course will cover the current state of telemedicine in the United States. State law issues and practice standards affecting telemedicine will come next. Then the components of reimbursement, credentialing and privileging. Current risk management and security issues and best practices will also be covered. Finally, the basics of contracting with technology vendors and practice partners will wrap up the session. This course is designed to serve as a solid foundation for the ATA Telemedicine Advanced course offered Sunday, May 15 from 8:00 am to 11:00 am.
